Crafting Connection

I went back to school last weekend.

Sewing school.

One of my intentions for this year is to reconnect with creativity that doesn't have to link to my work.

And to intentionally invest more time in looking after my own dreams, wants and needs.

I’m not a natural crafter.

I don’t know how to spell macrame.

I don’t even know what it is.

But I loved fashion at school and I wanted to be a textile designer.

Hence my desire to remember how to create something fabulous in fabric, after a 25 year gap.

I spent two days, with a beginners mindset, not locked in my head but instead focused on using different parts of me to create with no judgement on outcome.

My ears to hear the teaching

My hands to cut the fabric

My foot to use the pedal on my machine

And my eyes squint at the tiny needle whilst threading it.

*Side note, book an eye test Tamsyn.

I intentionally created a boundary for myself to commit the time to take part fully.

I loved it.

I could have easily not gone.

Told myself I was too tired, too busy, had to many “to do’s”

My lesson is always learning to strengthen boundaries with myself first, and give myself the gift of time.

If you’ve listened to Pivots and Plot Twists, you’ll know I always ask what piece of advice you'd give to your younger self.

My guest today reframed that question and instead asked  what piece of advice her younger self might give to her now.

It's a great question.

I know mine would be to remember to stay connected to what you truly love and do more of that.

You can pivot towards more love and joy any time you decide to.

In the small things, not just the big shifts.

And you get to choose.

With love
