A woman who wants more
Today is International Women’s Day.
And I’m a bit over it, to be frank.
Except I’m not Frank, I’m Tamsyn.
And that seems to be part of the problem.
And before you say it, I know its #notallmen
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in for supporting my fellow females. For sure.
And I have been a willing participant in previous #IWD events in previous years.
In some cases I’ve instigated them.
But this year I’m out.
Because I’m not sure what actually changes as a result of the campaigns that come around each March, on this day.
Especially in most of the organisations or groups that use this as a marketing tool or a self-congratulatory echo chamber.
I’m far more interested in real conversations that are actually backed by action.
True courage to speak truth to power.
Using the collective anger, exhaustion and frustration to drive positive change for all.
Everyday. Not just on this day.
Because it’s a really big, global problem

Platitudes and tokenism are really unhelpful.
Being asked to make a cutsie hand signal of a heart trivialises the challenges that many marginalised and excluded people face.
That includes many women.
And includes many other groups too.
But it looks good on socials, right?
The theme of 2024 is #inspireinclusion.
It doesn’t inspire anything in me other than a bit of #herewegoagain
And I speak as a white, middle class, privileged British woman who can always do more, every day to lift others and educate myself around my own blind spots and biases.
I know I need to learn more. I know I want to do better.
